PRIMARY ATROPHIC RHINITIS
BY: DR.S.PATTANAIK
This is a disease where
horrible stench is emitted from nose. Besides there may be loathsome maggot
infestation and discharge of foul smelling crusts that makes the patient
despised by others; colleagues, friends, spouse and all others in society. If
it happens with a girl, unfortunately it is more prevalent among the young
girls; their life turns hale, depression, divorce, suicide results at times.
Fortunately it is not so common a disease.
Amidst the diseases threatening humanity the leprosy and
primary atrophic rhinitis (PAR) are the oldest known. They were described in
the epic Mahabharata of India. The causative factor of one, the Leprosy, was not
known until 1873 so it was a disease of unknown etiology and so without
treatment till then. An effective drug against it was found in 1940 and it is now on elimination from the world.
Tuberculosis, a naughty brother of leprosy bacteria is also going to meet early
elimination as its cause and treatment is found. The PAR was still maintaining
its unknown status. The causes and treatment of PAR was discovered since only
10 years but the patients are still in agony as it is not yet well circulated
to the doctors, patients and the world population.
In this
epic such a girl was encountered by a sage Parasar. Her extreme beauty enchanted
the sage and he relived her diseases by divine power and so she had sweet smell
emitted from her body and achieved high status.
There is no record of any
treatment that could treat this disease though it is a human misery since long
like leprosy. Some European doctors like Rethi, Lautenslauger, and Young had
devised operations of narrowing the nasal passage to restrict excess and free
flow of air in nose which was thought to be the cause of this disease. For this
suturing the nostrils or closing the walls of nose by breaking the boney walls
(frame) of it and shifting them medially there by narrowing the nasal passage.
Subsequently Indian doctors could do these narrowing processes by lifting the
nasal floor by an incision above gum and putting patients own sub-dermal tissue
or porcelain or plastic materials there by lifting the floor that causes
narrowing of nasal passage. These operations are based on wrong conception that
widening of nasal passage leading to excess air flow (proved wrong
subsequently) causes dryness that leads crusting and infection. So they were
never successful but the patient got torture that hardly the blood and bone can
bear.
The author published a new concept (cause) of this disease in the
scientific journal “Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and head and neck surgery
in 2006. Vol 58. No3” and he proceeded further on his work finding modification
of its causative factor on subsequent times but maintaining the treatment
modalities unchanged.
As a
result many more diseases, whose causes are unknown and so the treatment, was
found out. The patients suffering from these diseases seek treatment from various
modern doctors, specialists, and doctors of other systems and even witch crafts
but no relief and so live a hell of life.
Example of such diseases, or symptom complexes,
are head ache, sudden or progressive deafness, tinnitus (ringing in ear),
vertigo, (reeling), tingling on limbs, trembling of fingers, pain joints (peri-arthritis),
numbness in different parts of body, excess itching ear, ulcerative lesions in
mouth, long lasting cold, irritative or depressive mentality and many others found commonly. The sufferer, finding no
treatment, bears the brunt of the disease and may become hypochondriac or
neurasthenic.
It should be noted that head-ache
may accompany many diseases like pyrexia (malaria, typhoid and other many such
diseases), cold, hyper tension and relieved after treatment of the original
diseases but when no such causes are found (idiopathic) this new treatment is
the only help.
The author is disheartened and
frustrated that such a great relief to suffering humanity remains unavailable
to doctors and patients of the world.
A request for help by a patient in
USA to a voluntary helping institution there indicates that this problem
remains unsolved even after 10 years of discovery of specific treatment.
Probably Indian science journals are followed least not only by foreigners but
also by Indians themselves.
Another newly invented treatment for
ear hematoma by this author was published in Journal of otolaryngology (JLO)
England in 2010. It drew attention of world public so that an assessing
institution of USA is declaring it the best in comparison to other newly
invented ones in every month.
Something helping humanity should be
disseminated. The discoveries made by the author that would relief millions of
suffering humanity shouldn’t go unnoticed. The author’s attempt to circulate
through media may appear as one beating his own drum.
