Deafness, when progressive are usually accompanied by tinnitus,itchy ear,vertigo,and generalized neuro-psychic symptoms. They get no relief from any doctor. The recent most treatment of intra-tympanic corticosteroids proved futile. Hearing aid  is the only suggestion till now but it causes rapid aggravation. New research on NTM  gives relief and some times cure.
